First edition in English, translated from the French by Xan Fielding. Originally published in France (1963) as La Planete des Singes. Basis for the imaginative and very successful 1968 film, Planet of the Apes, scripted by Rod Serling and starring Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, and Kim Hunter. The film was followed by four sequels, two television series', and a 2001 Tim Burton remake starring Mark Wahlberg and Heston under makeup in the Dr. Zaius role.

A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, with but a touch of shelf wear to spine ends and a few soil spots to white background of rear panel. A superior copy of this American first edition.
