This is the first American edition of The House on the Borderland, and the first omnibus edition of these collected pieces. In Supernatural Horror in Literature, H.P. Lovecraft writes of Hodgson: "Few can equal him in adumbrating the nearness of nameless forces and monstrous besieging entities through casual hints and insignificant details, or in conveying feelings of the spectral and the abnormal in connection with regions or buildings." He continued to call The House on the Borderland "perhaps the greatest of all Mr. Hodgson's works." Bleiler, p. 101. Currey, p. 243. Lovecraft, p. 83. Minor shelf wear to the boards and minimal edge wear to the dust jacket. A tight, clean, bright copy in very near fine condition.
